Do be mindful that an an employer brings a certain amount of fears and concerns to the interview process. Buried deep within each interview
question lies a hidden fear or concern.
This is especially true if you are in the over 40 and over 50 set. Age discrimination is "alive and kicking" and it's extremely difficult to prove. It's better
to focus on GETTING HIRED than on unfair treatment to older workers.
What can you do?
1. Convince the employer that you are a good fit.
2. As to addressing the employer's concern that you are "OVERQUALIFIED", demonstrate by example and confidently choose your words showing that any learning
curve will be minimal and that you will be productive more quickly than a younger worker.
3. State that your years of experience has developed your ability to exercise sound judgment and decision making under pressure.
4. You may be asked how you feel working for a supervisor who is younger than you and lacks the full breadth of your
knowledge. Your response should be positive and straightforward. State that your wisdom and judgment gives you an edge over a younger worker or supervisor but more importantly, acknowledge that
everyone has something to teach and that this younger worker will undoubtedly, have knowledge and strengths that you lack but as a team, your working relationship with this younger worker will
benefit the employer with the best of both worlds. Be confident, be positive and you will be HIRED!

As a seasoned professional, you have a wealth of experience to bring to any employer. The "Achilles Heel", all too often, is failure or the inability to
identify your Greatest Achievement or your Proudest Accomplishment.
Be careful of "trick" questions such as, "Tell me a Story". Do tell them a story but tell them a FACTUAL story. Describe a specific job circumstance or task
that aligns with the job description and one of the employer's listed requirements. Tell the interviewer what ACTION you took and the RESULTS. You need to communicate to the interviewer some kind of
bottom-line result such as reducing accidents, changing purveyors, increasing overall efficiency by ___ % or by saving time. In business, TIME is MONEY. You
must LINK yourself to a "quantifiable benefit" for the company.
Do these things and you have ACED the interview. Welcome NEW JOB!
