Republican strategist and CBS News Contributor, Frank Luntz, offers a unique perspective and analysis for millennials in the 18-26 year old demographic.
He refers to these select millennials as the “Snapchat Generation” due to their daily usage of the social media app, SNAPCHAT. A poll and survey of one thousand 18-26 year olds focuses on their beliefs and attitudes.
How do these select millennials view their future?
88% are OPTIMISTIC
12% are PESSIMISTIC
How do these same individuals view their financial future?
75% of the respondents stated they would fare BETTER than their parents.
19% of those surveyed stated they would do the SAME.
The remaining 6% stated they would do worse than their parents.
Surprisingly, only 25% of the parents stated that their children would do better financially.
These millennials have a strong belief that the United States is failing but that they will succeed. They believe they can achieve their objectives but that capitalism and the economy is holding them back. Most of them reject capitalism and they hate bankers.
Their driving force is personal freedom and opportunity vs. “collectivism”. Work/life balance really matters to these millennials. Most importantly, they believe in themselves. All of these factors contribute to their optimism.
What is the MOST COMPASSIONATE Economic System?
58% = SOCIALISM
33% = Capitalism
9% = Communism
What is the MOST PRESSING Issue facing America today?
28% = Income Inequality
24% = Education cost
22% = National Security/Tourism
26% = Other
The chief complaint of this “Snapchat Generation” is corruption.
Social media is their primary source of news and information. The downside of social media is that there is no accountability. SNAPCHAT is communication “at that moment” or communication “in the moment” only to disappear forever.

It appears these millennials have misplaced their focus. Capitalism allows anyone to start a business. It does not discriminate against any would be entrepreneur. Unlike communism, an entrepreneur takes a risk when he or she starts a business and therefore, is entitled to reap its profits. Under communism, all sales are confiscated by the government taking away personal incentive to achieve financial security.
Financial greed and abuse of power lead to corruption.
The next time you apply for a job, be mindful that some entrepreneur created that opportunity for you to earn a living under capitalism.
